AbstractTitle: Serial recall of two-voice lists: Words are not perceptually organized by voice.The present study examined how voice affects the perceptual grouping of words in short-term memory that are auditory presented. Three different voice-lists were used: single-voice, alternating-voice and split-voice. In single-voice lists all words were presented in the same voice. In alternating-voice lists words were presented alternately in a male and a female voice. Finally, in split-voice lists words were presented grouped four and four in a male and a female voice.

In many earlier investigations a recall advantage of auditory lists spoken in a single voice has been found over recall of lists spoken in two alternating voices. One explanation proposed is an organization strategy which makes recall of alternating-voice lists so difficult. The strategy implies sorting same-voice words into same-voice groups at encoding. The population over 65 years of age is increasing and health in elderly has been a subject of research for decades but voice function and vocal health has not been prioritized. The purpose of this study is to obtain reference value for the Swedish version of Voice Handicap Index (RHI) and the Throat Scale among people over 65 years of age and assess voice function and vocal health for this age group. The questions were as followed:1) What is the reference value of RHI for people over 65 years of age? 2) What is the reference value of the Throat Scale for people over 65 years of age? 3) Is there a correlation between a self-rated VA-scale on the perceived degree of voice problems, and the self-rated RHI-/Throat Scale result? 4) Does age, gender or previous profession matter for the self-perceived voice?In total 100 individuals participated in the study, 50 women and 50 men, between 65 and 92 years old. The reference value of RHI for people over 65 years of age was 13,4 points and the reference value for the Throat Scale was 7,7 points.

This essay focuses on four different aspects of readability: voice, causality, advanced words and the LIX-value of words. Each of these four facilitates or aggravates reading comprehension for students, which is further defined in the paper. The study is an analysis of textbooks in history for 8th grade from a second language perspective. Title: Alexander Technique - Different thoughts on the Alexander Technique and its effect on the singing voice. Does singing lessons cause tension in the student? What should you as a teacher consider to avoid situations that cause tension? This examination is based on interviews. The persons who have been interviewed are singing students, singing teachers and teachers in the Alexander Technique. The literature and the interviews describe the Alexander Technique as a method that, with support of a teacher of the Alexander Technique, helps you to recreate the balance between the cranium, neck and spine.

The purpose of this study was to examine if there were anychanges in quality in the voices of speech and language pathology studentsafter four years of study at the University of Gothenburg. Recordings oftwenty student voices from the first and eight semesters were evaluatedperceptually by six speech-language pathologists. The parameters judgedwere: vocal fry, glottal attacks, strain, breathiness and resonant voice, usinga scale from 0 to 10. Acoustical measures were made of F0 mean andmedian to detect possible differences between the two recordings. Theresults show a significant decrease in vocal fry, glottal attacks and strain aswell as an increase in resonant voice and a significant decrease in F0 meanand median.

Studies indicate that between 6-9% of all children has some type of voice problems. Voice problems in children may have different etiology and can affect all ages. In Sweden, there is a lack of a standardized questionnaire addressed to children with voice problems and their legal guardians. The purpose of this study was to translate and validate the Pediatric Voice Handicap Index (pVHI) in Swedish children aged 6 to 10 years. The study was carried out through an internet-based assessment form for children referred to speech and language pathologist/ phoniatrican due to voice disorders in Sweden and a matched control group of children without voice problems.

A controlled recording in a studio is the basis of all voice treatment. However, this controlled way of recording voice patients' voices can be questioned. Voice over IP (VoIP) is a relatively new technology that enables voice calls over data networks.With VoIP it is possible to lower expenses, and increase functionality and flexibility. FromSwedish Armed Forces point of view, the security issue is of great importance, why the focus inthis report is on the security aspect of the two most common open-source VoIP-protocols H.323and SIP, some of the most common attacks, and counter-measures for those attacks.Because of the level of complexity with a network running H.323 or SIP, and the fact that it hasyet to stand the same level of trial as of traditional telephony, a VoIP-system includes manyknown security-issues, and probably at present many unknown security flaws.The conclusion is that it takes great knowledge and insight about a VoIP-network based onH.323 or SIP to make the network satisfyingly safe as it is today, and is therefore perhaps not asuitable solution for the Swedish Armed Forces today for their more sensitive communications..

ABSTRACTThis essay has as its main purpose to examine how teachers handle teaching in art, after the governments steeredocuments and goals to reach.To find out about it I have done interviews with four teachers. I have made a study of litterature to introduce some different teaching methods that is more or less meaningful and useable. The result of the examination was different from what I expected. The interviews showed that the four teachers work in varios ways after their own conditions. They have different experiences and also have different opinions about what is most important in the art teaching.

Rock singing - five vocal teachers´ experience of the female voice.The purpose of this study is to find out what different vocal teachers have to say about rock singing and the female singing voice. The method I have used to gather information is a phenomenographically inspired qualitative interview. The study begins with a few thoughts about my interest in rock singing, followed by a short overview about other research and literature that has been published on the subject. I have interviewed five vocal teachers in this study. All of them with many years experience of singing, both singing themselves and teaching professionally.

The singing-voice ? Differences and similarities between male and female singing-voices in a pedagogical perspectiveThe primary purpose of the present study is to create a basis for a deeper understanding of the male singing-voice. Within the above purpose the present study also aims at comparing differences and similarities between the male and the female singing-voice, and examining possible pedagogical differences in teaching male and female singing students.The study is partly a literature study where existing studies in the field of the singing-voice are examined, in which the male singing-voice is described in relation to the female one. The study also comprises an interview study where four professional singing-teachers, two male and two female, are being interviewed according to an interview guide (see appendix A) focusing on pedagogical aspects of the male and the female singing-voice.The results of the study show that the anatomical functions of the singing-voice are the same whether you are male or female. This also holds true for the basic singing-technique which is the same for both sexes.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether a direct shift inpostural alignment results in changes in voice source characteristics. Ninemales with untrained voices were recorded standing in ideal posturalalignment and in the deviant postures swayback and kyphosis characterizedby extended hips and a slump back respectively. The voice source wasderived from the audio signal by inverse filtering. The parameters pulseamplitude, maximal flow declination rate, level difference between the firstand second voice source partials, closed quotient and the normalizedamplitude quotient in relation to subglottal pressure were compared betweenideal postural alignment and swayback and kyphosis respectively. Resultsindicate an impact of changed postural alignment on the voice source.Swayback posture gave significantly less pulse amplitude and maximal flowdeclination rate and significantly higher subglottal pressures thus resulting ina less effective phonation.

Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka om Feldenkrais-metoden kan vara till hjälp i sångutövande, och hur man kan använda Feldenkrais-metoden i sångundervisning. Jag har valt att använda mig av en kvalitativ undersökning där jag utgått från litteratur, en intervju samt deltagande observation ur ett emiskt/etiskt perspektiv. Som sångare eller utövare av något musikaliskt instrument är det av stor vikt att man är medveten om, och tar hand om sin kropp, för att kunna prestera på topp och hålla i längden. Feldenkrais metoden kan i detta fall fungera som en nyckel till att finna lätthet i rörelse och andning. Man bör dock belysa att det finns många andra metoder att nå kroppsligt välbefinnande på, och att det är upp till individen att känna vad som passar bäst.The aim of this thesis is to examine if the Feldenkrais- method can be of help in singing practise, and how you can use the method in Voice teaching.
